Personal profile
I am a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Science in the Institute of Allied Health Sciences at 777ӰԺ. I grew up in Padova where I have also completed my BSc and MSc in Molecular Biology at Universita' di Padova (Italy). As part of my MSc, I was awarded an Erasmus Scholarship which brought me to Leicester. Being fascinated by fruit flies and the circadian clock, I pursued a PhD in Charalambos Kyriacou's laboratory in the Department of Genetics at the University of Leicester investigating how temperature influences the circadian clock. After this, I worked in Flaviano Giorgini's lab as a research associate where I shifted my research interests to human neurodegenerative disorders such as Huntington’s (HD), Parkinson’s (PD) and Alzheimer’s (AD) diseases. Here, I have led several research projects aiming to discover and characterise genetic and pharmacological interventions for treating these disorders. I joined DMU in August 2019 where I am contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching inthe School of Health and Allied Science.
Moreover, my research group using fruit flies as model system is working to understand the biological and molecular alterations occurring in neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases with the aim to discover new therapeutic interventions.
