We offer more than a degree — every course is designed with employability and real-world experience at its core.

DMU is one of the few universities where you’ll benefit from a unique block teaching approach.

This course is professionally accredited, meaning your learning is informed by current industry practice.

The course offers a strong balance of academic theory and hands‑on learning, helping you develop a critical understanding of financial practices and the role of accountants in today’s economy.

Available exclusively to EU and international students

This degree equips you with the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to begin your career as a chartered accountant. Focusing on UK accounting standards in real-world contexts, the course prepares you for a range of finance roles in global business environments.

You’ll combine academic theory with hands-on application, developing a critical approach to the challenges accountants face in today's business world. You’ll also explore the strategic role of accounting in financial decision-making.

On successful completion, you’ll be eligible for up to eight ACCA exemptions and additional exemptions from CIMA, helping you fast-track your journey toward becoming a fully qualified accountant. You'll study within a supportive and internationally-focused university community.

Block teaching designed around you

You deserve a positive teaching and learning experience, where you feel part of a supportive and nurturing community. That’s why most students will enjoy an innovative approach to learning using block teaching, where you will study one module at a time. You’ll benefit from regular assessments – rather than lots of exams at the end of the year – and a simple timetable that allows you to engage with your subject and enjoy other aspects of university life such as sports, societies, meeting friends and discovering your new city. By studying with the same peers and tutor for each block, you’ll build friendships and a sense of belonging. Read more about block teaching.

What you will study

Financial Reporting and Accounting

This is a highly technical module intended to allow the development of skills required to prepare consolidated financial statements through application of relevant financial reporting standards. Additionally, candidates will understand how to calculate ratios from these statements, and use these calculations to effectively analyse the companies

Performance Management

This module is a mixture of highly-technical accounting techniques and a theoretical application of management accounting fundamentals. This will provide students with the knowledge to provide advice and support to internal stakeholders on financial based decisions.

By undertaking this module, students are introduced to the main principles of corporate financial decision-making. Analytically, using normative economic theory as the basic philosophical foundation, students are exposed to the four essential parts of business finance: financing decisions, corporate investment decisions, the selection of a suitable dividend policy and the management and forecasting of working capital.

Taxation

This module introduces candidates to the subject of taxation and provides the core knowledge of the underlying principles and major technical areas of taxation as they affect the activities of individuals and businesses.

The module aims to provide students with an understanding of the academic and professional skills required to successfully navigate the UK Higher Education system and qualify as a chartered accountant.
