DMU wants to improve sustainability across its campus and is offering a £100 prize for your help.
Staff and students are being urged to come up with the ideas to improve sustainability to mark the start of COP 30, as world leaders gather in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil to discuss climate action.
The best 30 ideas will be evaluated and put before university leaders with the aim that, where possible, they will be implemented across the campus.
There will be a £100 gift voucher for the best idea or set of ideas, as judged by a panel, submitted for the 30 for 30 project.
DMU’s Sustainability Manager Karl Letten said: “This really is a chance for staff and students to make a real-world difference and see their ideas implemented. We would welcome any ideas from staff and students on our energy, biodiversity, investment, travel, parking, carbon and sustainable food policies.
“We don’t want huge submissions, investigated and fully costed project proposals – just the raw idea. Frankly, we only need a few words.
“DMU has a good record on sustainability, but we are always looking to improve and running this project during COP 30 is the most appropriate time.”
DMU is currently ranked second for sustainability in the UK by the People & Planet student network and has featured a total of 35 times in the world top 100 for the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since 2019.
Anyone with sustainability ideas for 30 for 30 should email dmusdg@dmu.ac.uk by Sunday 30 November 2025. There is no minimum word length for submissions, we just want those ideas.
For further information, please see DMU’s Sustainability strategy.
Project 30 for 30 is part of a series of events taking place for staff and students as part of COP 30 @ DMU.
There is the launch of a £1.3m National Lottery funded environmental project; the prestigious SDG Award Night; a bikers’ breakfast to reward cycling commuters; Pizza for the Planet; plus a whole series of research events. See the DMU at COP 30 webpage for more details.
